Neakasa M1 Plus and M1 Lite Plus: Specs, Price, vs LR4
Neakasa M1 Plus and M1 Lite Plus: open-top design, 2.2–33 lb cats, 11.23 L waste bin, litter rules, supplies, prices and how they compare with the LR4.
On this page
The Neakasa M1 is now sold in the U.S. as two open-top versions: the M1 Plus ($399.99 sale, $549.99 list) and the M1 Lite Plus ($379.99 sale, $499.99 list), at Neakasa’s U.S. store as of November 2, 2026. Neakasa rates both for cats from about 2.2 lb to “around 33 lbs.” Both have an 11.23 L waste bin that Neakasa says usually needs emptying about every 14 days for one cat. Neakasa’s own comparison table lists the same sensors and capacities for both. The differences are price, color and what comes in the box.

What’s different between Plus and Lite Plus
The “Choose the Perfect Model” table on Neakasa’s Lite Plus page lists these differences:
| Item | M1 Lite Plus | M1 Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Color | Pearl White | Grey |
| Waste bags included | 1 roll (15 pcs), “Value $10” | 2 rolls (30 pcs), “Value $20” |
| Litter mat | “Not Include” | “Included, Value $30” |
The same table lists identical sensors, odor control (“OdorSeal Technology”), entry height, litter capacity, waste bin capacity and weight for both. On the sale prices of the check date, the Plus cost $20 more and included the litter mat and an extra roll of bags.
Open-top design
Neakasa says the “open-top structure keeps the entrance open 24/7, preventing any chance of getting stuck.” There is no globe door or hood. Neakasa also describes a sealing strip on the waste bin for odor, and claims a “custom-fit sealing layer” that prevents “up to 95% of urine leaks.” Those are Neakasa’s claims. For how open-top and enclosed designs compare in general, see open-top vs enclosed.
Weight limits and kittens
- Upper limit: Neakasa says the M1 “fits larger breeds like Maine Coons and Ragdolls,” up to around 33 lb. That is the highest stated limit among the models we track. See large cats.
- Lower limit: Neakasa says kittens of 2.2 lb or more can use Automatic Cleaning mode.
- Kitten Mode: below 2.2 lb, Neakasa recommends turning automatic cleaning off and using Kitten Mode. In that mode the box doesn’t clean itself. The Lite Plus page says to wait about 5 minutes after use, then press Clean.
- Number of cats: Neakasa doesn’t give one. Its pages say the M1 is for “multi-cat households.” See multiple cats.
Litter type
Neakasa says the M1 “Works best with fast-clumping, scoopable litter” and “fast clumping mineral or bentonite clay.” It also gives the filter size: the filter “sifts particles up to 3 mm in diameter and 10 mm in length.” Neakasa lists these as not compatible:
- highly absorbent litter
- non-clumping litter
- loosely clumping litter
- newspaper litter
- wood pellet litter
Neakasa makes no claim about litter savings on either page. For options, see litter for self-cleaning litter boxes.
Consumables
- Waste bags: Neakasa sells replacement bags at $19.99 for 2 rolls (30 bags), about $0.67 per bag. Its FAQ also says “you can use any bag that fits in the waste drawer.”
- Yearly bag cost: at Neakasa’s figure of about 14 days per bin for one cat, that works out to roughly 26 bags, or about $17 at the 30-bag price. More cats will mean more frequent emptying, and Neakasa gives no figure for that.
- Filters: we found no filter or deodorizer refill listed as an M1 consumable on Neakasa’s product pages.
Run your own numbers, litter included, in the cost calculator.
App
- M1 Plus page: “Track your cat’s daily usage, monitor health trends, and schedule cleanings.”
- Lite Plus page: smart settings, litter-level monitoring, real-time monitoring, multi-cat recognition and remote control.
Usage logs are records, not a health check; ask a veterinarian about any concern.

Bottom line
The Neakasa M1 Plus and M1 Lite Plus share the same core specs:
- open-top design
- cats from about 2.2 to around 33 lb
- 11.23 L waste bin
- fast-clumping clay or mineral litter
On November 2, 2026, the Lite Plus cost $379.99 and the Plus $399.99 on sale. The Plus adds a litter mat, an extra roll of bags and a grey color. Compared with the Litter-Robot 4, both cost less on sale and accept heavier cats by Neakasa’s figures. Neakasa doesn’t state a cat count, and its return window is 30 days against Whisker’s 90-day trial.
